The Way We Work
Follow these five simple steps to ensure a smooth move.
Step One – The Call When you call or email JRMS we will arrange to visit you to assess your requirements and provide you with an estimate. We always recommend, whenever possible, that we visit your home in order to get a clear understanding of your requirements and to provide you with an accurate quotation for your move.
Step Two – The Survey
The visit, on average, takes no longer than an hour. During the visit you can discuss your wrapping and packing requirements and any other concerns you may have. It’s always useful to give as much relevant information as possible during this visit.
Step Three – The Quote
Following your survey you will be sent a quotation and acceptance form. It is important that you check the details on the quotation and acceptance form for accuracy, insuring that no changes have occurred since JRMS' visit.
Step Four – The Booking
When you are happy with the quotation, you will need to send back your acceptance form in order to book your move with JRMS at your earliest convenience. Bookings will be made depending on availability and on a first come first served basis. Bookings are only confirmed upon receipt of the deposit stated in the quotation. We accept payments by BACS, cheque or cash. Personal cheques need to be paid in due time to clear by the moving date.
Step Five – The Move
Once you have a confirmed booking, please make sure you make adequate preparation for your move. Ensure that your possessions are packed safely and securely. Here are a few tips on adequate preparation for moving house.
Preparing For Your Move
Packing
Make sure that you use strong enough boxes or containers and ensure they are not overfilled. Packing and wrapping materials are available at a fee and upon request from JRMS. It is also helpful if you label each box with the room in the new home to which it should be delivered. It is also advisable that all packing and preparation is completed by the time the moving team arrives at your house.
Furniture Dismantle
Be sure to dismantle self-assembly furniture, take down all curtains, fixtures and fittings prior to the arrival of the moving team.
Attics and lofts
Ensure all items that are in your loft are sorted and placed in an accessible room. Your moving team will not be permitted into your attic unless it is boarded, well illuminated and with a safe point of entry.
Valuable documents
Place all your important documents in a folder and separate from your household goods. Plan to carry these with you when you travel.
Cookers/washing machines/fridges & freezers
These appliances should all be disconnected, cleaned, drained and dried prior to the arrival of your moving team. To avoid damage, the drums of automatic washing machines must be secured with the proper brackets supplied by the manufacturer.
Clothing
All clothing should be boxed up. Chest drawers containing clothes can be moved with their contents. Only upon prior request can clothing remain on hangers. JRMS can provide special wardrobe cartons at a fee.
Stereo system, video and computer equipment
These pieces of equipment are best moved in their original packaging and in accordance with the manufacturers instructions.
Food Items
Prior to packing tighten all lids of jars and screw tops of bottles. Remember that food items cannot be taken into storage.
Contents of garages & garden sheds
These should be organised well in advance, and tools must be cleaned and tied together. Flammable products cannot be moved in our vehicles as this will invalidate your insurance !!
Access
Access to and from the doorway of your home is critical for our vehicles.
Explain to neighbours in advance that removal vehicles will be parked outside your home and prepare them for any inconvenience.
Long-term storage
Extra steps need to be taken with domestic appliances, which will be stored in excess of three months. Washing machines and dishwashers must be completely drained of surplus water as damp, mildew and seizure of component parts can take place when these appliances are not used for a considerable length of time.
Personal effect and items
Pack a bag of personal items you'll need during the move (change of clothes, toiletries, medicine, maps, food, and drinks). Keep it in an easy-to-find place when you packand leave it as one of the final items you place in your car.
Moving your plants
It is advisable that you wrap your plants in newspaper to protect them from draughts as well as preventing the leaves from being bruised. Once in your new home place them in a warm space and do not un wrap them until all moving activity has come to a conclusion. During summer it is advisable not to leave your plants in a hot car or in the sun for prolonged periods.
